What is Horizons?
Horizons is a little bit different to the rest of the service at SPARC. It is an evening social group for adults in the Stockport area who experience some form of mental health problem. Please see below for referral criteria.
Horizons aims to provide a friendly and supportive meeting place where people can make friends, widen their social networks and join in fun and therapeutic activities.
We meet every Wednesday evening from 7.00pm till 9.30pm. We usually meet at SPARC but also plan regular activities at external venues such as local restaurants or cinemas.
How can I access Horizons?
People can be referred by friends, family, health and social care workers and can also self-refer. However our referral criteria are that you must:
- Live in Stockport
- Be aged between 18 and 64 and
- Have a mental health issue
You will be asked to complete an application form and you will need a reference relating to your mental health issue eg. from your GP.
If you are already a member of SPARC you are automatically eligible to come along to Horizons.
What activities go on at Horizons?
Every week we serve food and drinks and have a game of bingo, all for a minimal charge. In addition, we have different activities each week that are planned by the group members. These can include:
Trips out to local attractions such as the cinema or 10-pin bowling
Double Prize Bingo
Pool and darts competitions
Meals out at local restaurants
